All license holders with the Architects Licensing Board of Newfoundland and Labrador (ALBNL) are required to complete 70 Continuing Education (CE) hours every two-year cycle. This must include a minimum of 25 Core (Structured) learning hours and 45 Self-Directed (Unstructured) learning hours. The current cycle runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.
Core learning provides foundational knowledge relevant to architectural practice and is intended to address both current and emerging industry needs. Core activities must meet one of the following criteria:

All Core distance education modules must include an interactive component (e.g., quiz, real-time session, or engagement feature). Core activities must be at least one hour in length and supported by a Certificate of Completion that includes the course title, participant name, provider, date, and duration.
Self-Directed learning allows license holders to develop specialized skills and explore topics of professional interest. These activities do not require ALBNL pre-approval and may include reading, independent study, or informal professional development relevant to architectural practice. License holders are responsible for determining whether a learning activity qualifies as Self-Directed.
