Architects and architectural professionals in Canada require Continuing Education or Learning hours to maintain their professional designation. Browse courses that meet your requirements, or choose one of our course packages, specially curated to contain all the hours and credits you need, in one place. The courses on LearnFormula may be counted towards professionally relevant, verifiable learning activities. It is the student's responsibility to validate whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their professional development requirements based on their own learning needs.
Architects in British Columbia must complete 36 Learning Units (LUs) every two years, divided into Core and Non-Core categories. At least 16 of the 36 LUs must be Core, and a minimum of 2 Core LUs must specifically address Indigenous Peoples Learning. These requirements apply to architects, architectural technologists, and intern architects.
All activities must be educational in nature, at least 30 minutes in length (excluding breaks), and include clear learning objectives. Core LUs relate directly to the design, documentation, construction, use, or professional practice of buildings, including responsibilities related to ethics, conduct, and environmental or social impact. Non-Core topics are supplementary and may include business development, marketing, human resources, or general leadership training.
Architects are responsible for self-reporting eligible learning activities through the online portal. Each activity must be entered individually and include:
Accepted learning formats include courses, live webinars, professional tours, research, writing, recorded content with quizzes, workshops, and seminars. Each session within a multi-session event (such as a conference) must be reported separately with its own objectives and topic.
All records must be retained for at least one year after the end of the reporting cycle in the event of an audit. Documentation may include certificates, registration emails, detailed notes, or event programs.
Failure to meet CE requirements by the deadline may result in a finding of non-compliance and trigger penalties under the applicable professional rules.
Courses on https://architecture.learnformula.com have been reviewed by LearnFormula’s Accreditation Department to align with the CE requirements for architects in British Columbia. Each course includes clearly stated learning objectives and content relevant to Core or Non-Core categories. While these courses may be eligible for reporting, final acceptance of Learning Units is at the discretion of the regulator.
LearnFormula is not formally affiliated with any regulatory body in British Columbia. For full details, please refer to the Continuing Education policy linked on the regulator’s official website.
