Architects and architectural professionals in Canada require Continuing Education or Learning hours to maintain their professional designation. Browse courses that meet your requirements, or choose one of our course packages, specially curated to contain all the hours and credits you need, in one place. The courses on LearnFormula may be counted towards professionally relevant, verifiable learning activities. It is the student's responsibility to validate whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their professional development requirements based on their own learning needs.
All architects registered with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) are required to complete a minimum of 35 Continuing Education (CE) hours per calendar year. This total must include at least 8 Core (Structured) hours and 27 Self-Directed (Unstructured) hours. The current reporting cycle runs from January 1 to December 31 each year.
Core or Structured Activities must be educational in nature, relevant to professional practice, and include an interactive or verifiable component. These activities must relate to architecture or the business of architecture and fall under approved subject areas.
Examples of Core/Structured Activities include:
Recognized Core subject areas include:
Self-Directed Activities are less formal but must still relate to the professional development of the architect. These may include independent reading, research, mentorship, or informal discussions, but must align with NSAA’s guidelines. There is no maximum for either category, but the minimum Core requirement must be met annually.
Members are required to log all CE activities using the NSAA’s approved reporting system. Each activity must be reported with relevant details, including the category, date, description, provider, and number of hours. NSAA may confirm hours for certain official events, such as the Annual General Meeting.
Carry-over hours from the prior year may be logged under the “Other” category if confirmed by NSAA.
While NSAA does not require pre-approval of individual courses, it does participate in the joint ALBNL+AANB+NSAA Education Provider Program for formal course accreditation. Core distance modules must include an interactive component to qualify for structured credit. Documentation of participation may be required in the event of an audit.
Courses on https://architecture.learnformula.com have been reviewed by LearnFormula’s Accreditation Department to align with NSAA’s continuing education requirements. Each course includes defined learning objectives, interactive components (where applicable), and appropriate documentation. While these courses may qualify as Core or Self-Directed activities depending on content and delivery, final acceptance of CE hours is at the discretion of the NSAA.

CE Architects courses are built around relevant, verifiable content that can be applied toward NSAA CE hours. As with any provider, it remains the member's responsibility to confirm an activity fits their own professional development needs before claiming it.
