Architects and architectural professionals in Canada require Continuing Education or Learning hours to maintain their professional designation. Browse courses that meet your requirements, or choose one of our course packages, specially curated to contain all the hours and credits you need, in one place. The courses on LearnFormula may be counted towards professionally relevant, verifiable learning activities. It is the student's responsibility to validate whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their professional development requirements based on their own learning needs.
The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) requires licensed architects to complete 70 hours of Continuing Education (ConEd) every two years. Of these, at least 25 hours must be Structured Learning, including a minimum of 2 hours that address the Climate Action requirement.
Licensed Technologists must complete 35 hours, with at least 12 Structured hours. Non-Practising members must also complete 35 hours, all of which may be Unstructured.
Structured Learning refers to formal educational activities at least one hour in length that include an assessment or live Q&A and are supported by evidence of participation.
Unstructured Learning includes informal, self-directed activities relevant to architectural practice, such as mentoring, professional reading, or research.
All ConEd activities must be self-reported in the OAA’s online transcript system. OAA-administered activities (such as conferences or webinars) are automatically recorded on behalf of members.
For third-party activities, members must retain acceptable proof of participation (e.g., certificates or letters of attendance) for six months after the end of the reporting cycle in case of audit.
Acceptable documentation for Structured Learning includes:
Members who fail to report the required hours by June 30, 2026 will be subject to a $750 administrative fee, with further sanctions possible if non-compliance continues.
The OAA does not accredit third-party ConEd providers. Members are responsible for determining whether an activity qualifies under the OAA’s Continuing Education Competency Framework, which outlines the professional, technical, ethical, and regulatory competencies required for competent architectural practice in Ontario.
Eligible topics must relate to the practice or business of architecture and may include:
