Architects and architectural professionals in Canada require Continuing Education or Learning hours to maintain their professional designation. Browse courses that meet your requirements, or choose one of our course packages, specially curated to contain all the hours and credits you need, in one place. The courses on LearnFormula may be counted towards professionally relevant, verifiable learning activities. It is the student's responsibility to validate whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their professional development requirements based on their own learning needs.
All architects subject to the continuing education obligations of the Ordre des architectes du Québec (OAQ) must complete at least 40 hours of continuing education during each two-year cycle. The current cycle runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026. Members are required to record completed training activities in their online Member Area.
Continuing education must support the professional development and competency of architects. Eligible subjects include:
Training activities are divided into five categories. Of the required 40 hours:
All 40 hours may be completed through Category 1 alone. Any additional hours accumulated in Category 1 beyond the 40-hour threshold may be carried over to the next cycle, up to a maximum of 17 hours.
Personal or informal learning activities such as reading magazines or travel are not recognized. Only structured, documented learning activities are eligible for credit.
Architects must retain supporting documentation for each reported activity, including proof of participation, course details, and learning objectives. Documentation is not required for activities organized by the OAQ or the Fonds des architectes du Québec.
